Denny Allemang WA8EYQ SK

Denny Allemang WA8EYQ died January 12, 2022 at age 94.

A longtime supporter of COTN, Denny served for years as Training Officer, helping operators to learn "the art and science of traffic handling," as he called it. When I (KD8TTE) first listened to amateur airwaves in preparation for my license exam, I found COTN thanks to its regular daily operating schedule and my earliest logbooks record WA8EYQ on the air time and again. He was on at my first report into the net, the day my callsign was issued, my first message relayed by voice procedure, and my first time as net control. He was knowledgeable in the system, precise in operation, and encouraging to those who wanted to learn. His on-air "training tips" helped to identify mistakes not for the purpose of drawing attention to those who made them but for helping to identify the errors so they could be avoided in future. That was the start of the Training Tips section of COTN's web site.

Denny will be missed.

Obituary

Denman K “Denny” Allemang, age 94, died January 12, 2022.

Retired employee of Industrial Nucleonics / AccuRay.

Denny was energetic and devoted to his many hobbies. He was an avid amateur photographer, and many of his photos are precious keepsakes for members of his family. He was fond of organ music, and though he had no formal musical training, spent many hours playing a wide variety of songs on his home keyboards. He was active in a world-wide amateur radio network, known in many circles by his “ham” radio call sign. He was a devoted supporter of his community, exemplified by his commitment as a third-generation Freemason. He spent his career working at the company founded as Industrial Nucleonics, and continued to be active in the employee alumni association (“The Geezers”) throughout his life. Professionally, he was an engineer, and brought a “fix-it” and maker attitude into his whole life, building out extensions and improvements to his home and tinkering with some project.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret Ann “Peg” Allemang, sister Diane Wirtz, and brother Michael Allemang.

Survived by sons, Don (Kathy) Allemang and Dean (Tim) Allemang; grandsons, Brendan and Nicholas Allemang.

Visitation 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Cook & Son-Pallay Funeral Home, 1631 Parsons Ave.
